Advisory Council Spotlight: Celeste Villarreal

Celeste I. Villarreal was a part-time Associate Judge for the City of Austin for eight years and three months. Prior to taking the bench in 2010, Ms. Villarreal represented clients and litigated family law, criminal defense, wills, and probate cases. She also has extensive governmental relations and communication experience in Austin and Washington, D.C. A former staffer at the Texas Capitol, Ms.Villarreal previously served as General Counsel and Public Information Officer for Texas State Senator Judith Zaffirini and Policy Analyst and Press Advisor to Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis and Texas House Representative Al Edwards. She has also worked in Washington D.C for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA), and the governmental affairs division of Greenberg Traurig, LLP in Austin, Texas. A “second career attorney,” she is also a 25 year veteran of the broadcast industry.

Ms. Villarreal received her Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science in Radio Television Film from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. When she’s not in the courtroom, Ms. Villarreal likes to spend her time enjoying Austin’s live music scene, western swing dancing, and hiking in the Texas hill country with her dogs.
