Interfaith Action of Central Texas

Austin Interfaith is a non-partisan, multi-ethnic, multi-issue organization of 43 congregations, public schools, and unions who work together to address public issues that affect the well being of families and neighborhoods in our community.

Volunteer Positions Available:

Handy Helper: In need of individual volunteers skilled in various types of home repair to help revitalize and provide critical health & safety repairs the clients’ homes. If you have the skills and some time on your hands, we’d appreciate your service!

Refugee Program Training: January 18, 2018, 6-8 pm. 

Available opportunities once volunteers have gone through training:

School-aged Refugee Tutoring: Help refugees in high schools with their homework and ESL tutoring.

Must be 18 years or older and have reliable transportation.

  • Linear High School: Wednesdays from 4:30 – 6pm
  • International High School: Thursdays 4:30pm – 6:15pm

Refugee Youth Mentoring: Mentor a high school-aged refugee for the school year. Meet up with the student every week and help with homework, English tutoring, answering questions, and helping with their social and cultural transition in American culture.  We ask volunteers to commit to 3-5 hours a week for the school year (August – May), be 18 years or older, and have a reliable form of transportation.

Adult ESL Teacher Assistant: Assist the teacher in class, once a week commitment for three months.

  • 9am-12pm downtown at Central Presbyterian Church, Mon – Thur.
  • 6-8pm at the YMCA on Rundberg lane Mon and Wed.

One-on-one adult tutoring: Tutor a refugee adult once or twice a week. You schedule days of the week and time with the student. We ask volunteers to commit for a long term period, at least 3 months.
