Keep Austin Fed

Keep Austin Fed is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that gathers wholesome and nutritious surplus food from local commercial kitchens and retailers, and distributes it directly to area nonprofits that serve people experiencing food insecurity. Our mission is to reduce hunger and help the environment by connecting surplus food and hungry neighbors. As we fight against hunger, we also fight for our environment by keeping food waste out of landfills. Astoundingly, 40% of the food produced in America never gets eaten, yet 1 in 7 one in seven Central Texans living with food insecurity.

Volunteers are the backbone of Keep Austin Fed. It is because of our amazing volunteers that Keep Austin Fed can rescue healthy food and deliver it to over 10,000 hungry neighbors every week, and why together, Keep Austin Fed volunteers have rescued over 3 million pounds of food!

Volunteering with Keep Austin Fed is simple and incredibly rewarding. Many of our volunteers make a big impact in less than 30 minutes delivering healthy nutritious food to our neighbors in need. Organizations and employers can provide meaningful volunteer opportunities to their staff through our Adopt A Food Run program, where food is collected and delivered weekly from donors such as Trader Joe’s and the Soup Peddler and delivered to recipient organizations that serve families, children and seniors in need. We provide training and logistical support and hold monthly volunteer appreciation and engagement events at local coffee shops and restaurants so our volunteers have the opportunity to get to know each other and Keep Austin Fed staff and board even better.
