National Immunization Month

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. You have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases like whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV, and pneumonia with vaccines.

During NIAM you are encouraged to talk to your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional to ensure you and your family are up to date on recommended vaccines.

Use CDC’s adult vaccine assessment tool to see which vaccines might be right for you.

Locally, the flu shots are available at Shots for Tots/Big Shots clinics for children who are uninsured or Medicaid recipients, and for uninsured adults.

Cost of the flu vaccine is $25 for adults, $10 for children, and free for children with Medicaid. No one will be denied services if they are unable to pay.  Appointments are needed at the clinics. Call 512-972-5520, Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm to make an appointment.
