Here are some of Communities in Schools in-school volunteering opportunities. All of the volunteer roles require a background check and volunteer training prior to service.
Reading Buddy
Commit 1 hour a week (during school hours) for at least one school semester.
Work consistently with one student to build literacy skills and confidence, provide support and encouragement.
Mentor
Commit 1 hour a week (during school hours) for one academic school year.
Act as a consistent, caring role model for one student, provide support and encouragement.
Success Coaching
Commit a minimum 3 hours to a maximum of a full school day (during school hours, they can work around how much time the group is able to give) 3-4 times throughout the academic school year.
Serve as a group (4-6 employees serve together)
Meet with high school students individually for around 10-15 minutes to discuss current successes, opportunities for improvement, future goals and aspirations, resources, options for further education and career building, etc.
SmartKids After-school Assistant
Commit from 3-4:40 once a week for at least one academic semester at a public housing site in Austin.
Help students with homework and assist with group activities and games as a part of the SmartKids after-school program.
